About Crazyhouse Fabrications

Established 1500 BCE
Crazyhouse Fabrications carries on a multi-millennial tradition of blacksmithing and an even longer tradition of humans teaching one another and working hand-in-hand to craft practical and creative materials.

Blacksmithing, the act of forging and crafting of iron, is considered to have been established in Bronze Age West Asia around 1500 BCE. This vital skill quickly spread as our civilization entered the Iron Age. Blacksmithing was brought to Canada in the 1670s (it is not known to have been previously part of Indigeous culture prior to this). We carry on this long-lasting human tradition as blacksmiths today.

While the team has been at it for many years now, we officially registered Crazyhouse Fabrications as a business in 2024. We chose a business name that reflects who we are—a local group of interesting people—and while our main focus is blacksmithing, we create a whole lot more.

Our Team

Andrew Wilton

Captain of the Crazies

Andy is our noble leader at Crazyhouse Fabrications. He discovered his passion forging at a young age and formed a vision of a business that not only sustains itself on reusable materials and blacksmithing sales, but also introduces others to the trade and shows them the value of these age-old skills.

Favourite historical weapon: The Rapier

Alexander Thompson

Power Hammer

Alex is a highly skilled blacksmith with a seemingly endless drive to forge. If you hear the ting of metalwork in central Chatham, it’s probably Alex hammering a knife for someone. No job is too big or small—from bladesmithing to babysitting (he’s an awesome uncle, too.)

Favourite historical weapon: The Zweihänder (Great Sword)

Rachel Wilton

Chief Adminsmith

In addition to her interests fabricating trinkets and chain mail, Rachel manages most of the administrative side of the business, including accounting, arranging events, and grant applications. Locals may also recognize her from her other awesome workplace—Turns & Tales Bookstore and Board Game Cafe.

Favourite historical weapon: The Long Bow

Amber Dilabbio

Marketing Technomage

If you’re wondering how a bunch of blacksmiths built this super cool website, and who’s that giggling behind the camera in our videos, look no further. Amber is a big fan of the forge, but she gravitates more towards the digital; her aim is to reach people in less traditional ways and bring more accessibility to the trade.

Favourite historical weapon: The Sickle

Tir

(very) Junior Apprentice

Tir is more of a team mascot than an actual blacksmith, but we are rooting for him to join our ranks when he’s ready. His main priority at the moment is getting through kindergarten/early grade school and learning not to go near us when we’re hammering sharp weapons at high temperatures.

Favourite historical weapon: The Green Sword (“like from Power Rangers”)

the rest of us

Anonymous Blacksmiths, General Labourers. Newbies, Collaborators, and Safety Commies

Not everyone wants their name on the website (no matter how much we want to single them out for their fantastic contributions). So this is just a blanket appreciation note to every person who contributes to Crazyhouse Fabrications. That includes you, whoever you are, taking the time to read about us. You’re one of us, too.

One of us…. One of us….

Professional.

Approachable.

Dependable.

We are always at least the second two.

Supporting Our Community

Publicly endorsing and giving back to the community is a top priority for us. Here are just a few of the groups we want to support as we grow.
